SBI Revises Cash Withdrawal Charges From October 1: What BSBD Account Holders Need to Know

State Bank of India (SBI) will revise cash withdrawal charges for certain Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts from October 1, 2026.

Under the revised structure, eligible customers will continue to receive four free cash withdrawals per month. However, every withdrawal beyond this limit will attract a charge of ₹15 plus GST.

Importantly, the change does not apply to every SBI savings account holder. The revised charges specifically apply to eligible BSBD accounts opened through the branch channel.

Four Cash Withdrawals Will Remain Free

Customers covered under the revised rules can make up to four cash withdrawals in a month without paying any additional charge.

After the free limit is exhausted:

  • 1st to 4th cash withdrawal: Free
  • 5th withdrawal onwards: ₹15 + GST per transaction

For example, if an eligible account holder withdraws cash five times in a month, the fifth transaction will attract the new charge. The same charge will apply to subsequent withdrawals beyond the four free transactions.

Digital Transactions Will Continue to Be Free

SBI has stated that digital transactions will remain free and unrestricted for the affected accounts.

This means customers can continue using digital payment methods without being subject to the four-transaction limit applicable to cash withdrawals.

The revised charge structure is therefore aimed specifically at customers who make frequent cash withdrawals.

Not Applicable to All SBI Customers

The announcement does not mean that every SBI customer will now have to pay ₹15 for cash withdrawals after four transactions.

The revised charges apply specifically to eligible Basic Savings Bank Deposit accounts opened through the branch channel.

Customers with other types of SBI savings accounts should check the applicable charges and transaction limits for their specific account category.

What SBI Customers Should Do

Eligible BSBD account holders who frequently rely on cash may want to track their monthly withdrawal count once the new charges take effect on October 1.

Those making four or fewer withdrawals a month will not face the additional charge. Customers who exceed the limit may reduce costs by using digital payment options where convenient.
