Experts Call India the “Only Country Russians Trust” Ahead of Putin’s Key Visit

Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India, strategic experts and industry leaders convened for a special session titled “Russia–India: Trusted Partners,” highlighting the depth and durability of the bilateral relationship. The discussion underscored how Moscow continues to view New Delhi as one of its most reliable global partners.

Vasily Pushkov, Director of International Cooperation at Sputnik News Agency, remarked that India is “probably the only country where Russians have no negative perception,” adding that India’s favourable image in Russia is long established and culturally rooted.

Sammy Kotwani, President of the Indian Business Alliance, emphasized the strength of the 25-year strategic partnership, noting that despite shifting geopolitical dynamics, the India–Russia bond has remained resilient and mutually beneficial.

The experts also pointed to rapidly expanding bilateral trade, which has now crossed $70 billion, driven primarily by energy cooperation, defence supplies and new investments. Looking ahead, the panel highlighted vast opportunities for collaboration in innovation, technology, digital ecosystems, and high-skill manufacturing, areas expected to shape the next phase of the partnership.

The conversation sets the stage for President Putin’s high-profile visit, where discussions on defence, energy, technology and long-term strategic alignment are expected to take centre stage.
