The video, released by Grey Bull Rescue, documents the moment Machado was extracted by sea during a mission codenamed Operation Golden Dynamite. The rescue took place in early December and was designed to help her flee Venezuela amid an intensified crackdown on political dissent.

Dramatic Night-Time Extraction at Sea

In the grainy footage, rescuers are seen approaching a small fishing boat under cover of darkness off the Venezuelan coast. As the vessels draw close, Grey Bull founder Bryan Stern can be heard confirming visual contact before greeting Machado and assuring her of her safety.

Machado’s voice is audible in the clip as she identifies herself and expresses relief, saying she is alive, safe, and grateful to the rescue team. The footage later shows still images of her wrapped in dark clothing, smiling alongside her rescuers as the mission is declared a success.

16-Hour Operation in Harsh Conditions

According to Grey Bull Rescue, the extraction was anything but simple. The mission reportedly lasted nearly 16 hours and was carried out in stormy seas that disrupted GPS signals and knocked out communication equipment. The team had to locate Machado’s small boat in rough waters, transfer her safely, and then ferry her to a larger vessel.

From there, Machado was taken to Curaçao, before flying onward to Oslo to attend her Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Machado had spent nearly a year in hiding inside Venezuela amid mounting pressure and arrests of opposition figures under the government of Nicolás Maduro. Her public appearance to accept the Nobel Prize marked a rare and symbolic moment, highlighting both her personal risk and the broader political situation in the country.
