Cricket broadcasting is moving beyond traditional camera coverage as new technology creates more immersive ways for fans to experience live matches. The India-Afghanistan cricket series in Delhi is set to bring together several broadcast innovations, including 360-degree camera effects, AI-stabilised footage, player tracking and interactive stadium technology.

As cricket audiences have grown, broadcasters have increasingly used technology to make live action more visual and engaging. Multiple camera angles, real-time graphics and data-driven visualisations now allow viewers to see the game from perspectives that were previously unavailable.

New camera technology changes the viewing experience

One of the key innovations is the Magic 360 Cam, which captures a moment from multiple angles to create a rotating 360-degree visual effect. The technique can make important moments appear more cinematic and give viewers a different perspective on the action.

The Skel Track technology is designed to provide a biomechanics-based view of players. It can highlight movements such as balance, head position and weight transfer while a batter plays a shot, adding another layer of analysis to the broadcast.

An AI-stabilised Umpire Cam will provide footage from the umpire's perspective, while player trackers will display the real-time positions of fielders. The latter can help viewers understand field placements and tactical decisions during different stages of an innings.

Technology creates new opportunities for brands

The innovations are also designed to give brands opportunities to become part of the broadcast experience without adding excessive visual clutter. Contextual graphics and technology-led integrations can allow advertisers to connect their messaging with specific moments in a match.

This approach reflects a broader shift in sports broadcasting, where technology is being used not only to improve coverage but also to create new forms of audience engagement.

Fans help power the cricket sightscreen

The series will also feature a fan-powered sightscreen activation. Spectators at branded cycling stations will pedal to generate kinetic energy that helps operate the sightscreen.

The concept replaces conventional diesel-generator power for the activation with energy produced by participating spectators. It combines cricket, fitness, technology and sustainability while creating an interactive experience inside the stadium.

The activation can also give brands opportunities to extend the experience through digital content and social media storytelling beyond the venue.

The India-Afghanistan series therefore represents a broader evolution in cricket broadcasting, where immersive visuals, artificial intelligence, real-time data and fan participation are becoming increasingly important parts of the match-day experience.
