Bangladesh Crisis: Security beefed up at Indian Embassy in Dhaka after protests over Hindu lynching

Security has been significantly reinforced at the Indian Embassy in Dhaka following violent protests triggered by the brutal lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, according to a ground report by India Today.

The heightened security comes amid rising tensions and growing concerns over the safety of the Hindu community and Indian nationals in Bangladesh. Armed police personnel have been deployed around the embassy premises as authorities seek to prevent any escalation of unrest.

Lynching sparks outrage across Bangladesh and India

The protests erupted after the lynching of Deepu Das, a Hindu man who was killed by a mob in Mymensingh over alleged blasphemy claims. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with demonstrations reported in multiple parts of Bangladesh as well as in India.

Speaking during the broadcast, India Today anchor Shivani Sharma said the situation had left many members of the Hindu community feeling unsafe amid reports of targeted violence and intimidation.

“The fear among minorities is real. The atmosphere has become increasingly tense after the incident,” she noted.

Armed police deployed at Indian mission

India Today correspondent Ashutosh Mishra, reporting from Dhaka, confirmed that armed police officers have been deployed around the Indian Embassy as a precautionary measure.

“The security presence has been visibly increased. Armed personnel are guarding the embassy to ensure there is no breach,” Mishra said, adding that Bangladeshi authorities appear to be on high alert following the protests.

Concerns for Indian students in Bangladesh

The broadcast also highlighted concerns raised by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, which has written to the Indian government urging it to ensure the safety of Indian students currently studying in Bangladesh.

The association cited reports of unrest and instability, calling for close monitoring and contingency planning should the situation deteriorate further.

Diplomatic sensitivities rise

The security escalation at the Indian Embassy comes amid strained diplomatic sensitivities between India and Bangladesh following the lynching incident and subsequent protests.
