Unaccustomed Earth First Look: Freida Pinto, Siddharth Lead Netflix Drama

Netflix has released the first look of Unaccustomed Earth, an upcoming family drama based on Jhumpa Lahiri’s short story collection. The series stars Freida Pinto as Parul Chaudhury and Siddharth as Amit and is scheduled to premiere on December 17, 2026.

Set in Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts, the series follows a multigenerational Indian American community while exploring love, loss, family relationships and questions of belonging. The story focuses on Parul, a wife and mother who once sacrificed a college romance to respect her father’s wishes.

After being diagnosed with cancer, Parul moves her family from India back to Cambridge, a place she regards as home. Confronting her illness prompts her to reconsider the life she had previously abandoned, with her decisions affecting both her family and the wider immigrant community.

The cast also includes Indraneil Sengupta as Jai, Parveen Kaur as Nina, Sarayu Blue as Ruma, Justin Bartha as Adam, Adi Roy as Kaushik, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig as Hema and Jayant Kripalani as Pranab. Ishita Bansal, Meera Simham, Ravi Kapoor, Swayam Bhatia and Palomi Ghosh are also part of the ensemble.

Madhuri Shekar serves as writer and showrunner, while Ritesh Batra directed and executive produced the first two episodes. Jhumpa Lahiri is among the executive producers. Warner Bros. Television produces the series, which will stream on Netflix from December 17.
