DUSU Elections 2026: ABVP Candidate Yash Dabas Faces Marksheet Controversy

Allegations concerning the academic record of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) presidential candidate Yash Dabas have surfaced on social media ahead of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections. The controversy emerged on Friday, shortly after the final provisional nomination list was released.

A purported marksheet linked to Dabas was circulated online, accompanied by messages urging students to consider the allegations before voting. The authenticity of the document has not been independently established.

The controversy comes as major student organisations have formally entered the race for the DUSU central panel. Polling is scheduled for September 18, with the election results expected on September 19.

ABVP has rejected the allegations, describing them as an attempt to damage Dabas' reputation ahead of the election. The organisation said the candidate had gained popularity among students and maintained that the claims were politically motivated.

The ABVP has fielded Dabas for the post of DUSU president. He will face National Students' Union of India (NSUI) candidate Vijay Shankar Meena and Ananya Raturi, who has been nominated by the Left alliance of the All India Students' Association (AISA) and Students' Federation of India (SFI).

NSUI has nominated Vir Chatrath for vice-president, Namrata Choudhary for secretary and Gopal Choudhary for joint secretary. The AISA-SFI alliance has fielded Akshat Shikhar for vice-president, Stanzin Deskyong for secretary and B Parijaat for joint secretary.

With the nominations finalised, campaigning for the DUSU central panel is expected to intensify. Student organisations are likely to focus on issues including campus infrastructure, student welfare, representation and safety.

The allegations surrounding Dabas' academic record have added another point of contention to an already closely watched election. ABVP has urged students to assess candidates based on their work and commitment to the university, while the controversy continues to circulate online.

The DUSU polls will take place on September 18, giving candidates and student organisations only a limited period to campaign and present their positions to voters. The outcome is expected on September 19.
