MEA Condemns ‘Unremitting Hostility’ Against Hindus in Bangladesh After Lynching

India has strongly condemned what it described as “unremitting hostility” against minorities in Bangladesh, following the lynching of a Hindu youth in the Mymensingh region. The Ministry of External Affairs said it is deeply concerned over the continued violence targeting minority communities under the country’s interim administration.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, while addressing the media, said India has taken note of a disturbing pattern of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. He revealed that Indian authorities have documented around 2,900 incidents of violence against minority communities since the interim government took charge.

“These incidents point to a sustained atmosphere of hostility against minorities. We strongly condemn such acts and expect the authorities in Bangladesh to take immediate and effective action to ensure safety, justice and accountability,” Jaiswal said.

The MEA’s remarks come in the backdrop of growing unrest in Bangladesh, where incidents involving mob violence and attacks on cultural events have raised alarm across the region. Among the recent flashpoints was a violent disruption of a rock concert by legendary musician James in Faridpur, where a mob stormed the venue and left at least 20 people injured. The concert was subsequently cancelled on law and order grounds.

Indian officials said New Delhi remains closely engaged on developments in Bangladesh and continues to urge Dhaka to uphold constitutional guarantees, protect minority rights and maintain public order. The MEA reiterated that respect for pluralism and rule of law is essential for regional stability.

The statement signals a sharper diplomatic stance from India amid increasing reports of attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, even as concerns grow over the broader implications for internal security and social harmony in the neighbouring country.
