India T20I Dominance: Phil Salt Says India Are New Global Trendsetters After 2024 World Cup Win

England batter Philip Salt has hailed India as the new global trendsetters in T20I cricket, crediting their transformation and dominance since the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph. Salt, speaking on the RCB Podcast, said India have overtaken England as the standard-setters in the shortest format.

Salt reflected on the contrasting phases of both teams. He recalled England’s emphatic 10-wicket win over India in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final in Australia, a match where Alex Hales and Jos Buttler chased down 169 inside 16 overs. Salt said that performance showcased England’s leadership in T20 innovation at that time.

However, he acknowledged that India have since reinvented themselves. “India have made the switch and are now the trendsetters in the global game. That semi-final in Guyana during the 2024 World Cup showed again that they would have taken some serious beating on that day,” he said.

Under captain Suryakumar Yadav, India have been unbeaten in T20I series since their World Cup win and currently hold the No. 1 ICC T20I ranking with 272 rating points. The Men in Blue have won nine consecutive series or tournaments, last losing a bilateral T20I series in 2023 against the West Indies.

Salt expressed hope that England will reclaim their spot at the top but acknowledged India’s current supremacy. India now shift their focus to the five-match T20I series against South Africa, beginning December 9, as preparations continue for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be hosted on home soil.
