India Wins 2 Gold, 4 Silver at IJSO 2025: Indian Team Shines at Junior Science Olympiad

India delivered an outstanding performance at the 22nd International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) 2025, securing two gold and four silver medals at the global competition held in Sirius, Russia, from November 22 to December 1, 2025. The prestigious Olympiad saw participation from 24 countries and 140 young science students.

India’s six-member delegation emerged as one of the top-performing teams of the year.

India’s Medal Winners

  • Gold:

    • Aadish Jain (Haryana)

    • Anmol Kumar (Punjab)

  • Silver:

    • Asmi Imandar (Maharashtra)

    • Sai Sarvan Muvvala (Telangana)

    • Ruhan Mohanty (Odisha)

    • Tejas SV (Tamil Nadu)

The Olympiad consisted of two theory exams and one experimental exam, each lasting three hours. Students were tested on advanced concepts across physics, chemistry and biology, making IJSO one of the toughest international competitions for this age group.


Rigorous Three-Stage National Selection

India’s representation at IJSO followed a stringent national selection process:

  • 50,000+ students from across India appeared for the Junior Science Olympiad exam, conducted by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) at nearly 1,200 centres.

  • Shortlisted candidates then underwent advanced theory and practical evaluations.

  • The final six-member team was selected after intensive training sessions.

The Olympiad programme in India is coordinated by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR, with support from:

  • Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)

  • Department of Science and Technology (DST)

  • Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD)
