IndiGo London–Mumbai Flight Diverted to Cairo, 300+ Passengers Stranded

An IndiGo flight travelling from London to Mumbai was diverted to Cairo, Egypt, due to airspace restrictions, leaving more than 300 passengers stranded at the airport for over eight hours.

The aircraft, operating as flight 6E2, had departed from London’s Heathrow Airport late on March 8 and was scheduled to reach Mumbai after a long-haul journey. However, the flight had to change its route mid-air as airspace restrictions affected its planned path.

Flight Route Changed Mid-Journey

According to flight tracking data, the aircraft took off from Heathrow at 9:33 pm UTC, which corresponds to 3:03 am Indian Standard Time on March 9. During the journey, the aircraft altered its course while flying over the Red Sea region.

Instead of continuing towards its destination in India, the flight was redirected and eventually landed at Cairo International Airport.

The diversion caused unexpected delays for passengers onboard, most of whom were Indian nationals travelling back to India.
