Indonesia’s Gede Priandana creates world record with 5 wickets in one over in T20Is

Gede Priandana etched his name into the record books by becoming the first cricketer in T20I history to take five wickets in a single over, producing a sensational spell during Indonesia’s opening T20I against Cambodia in Bali.

The 28-year-old right-arm pacer achieved the unprecedented feat in his very first over of the match, triggering a dramatic collapse that sealed a commanding 60-run victory for Indonesia.

How the historic over unfolded

Chasing a target of 168, Cambodia were 106/5 after 15 overs and still in contention when Priandana was introduced into the attack. What followed was one of the most extraordinary moments in international cricket.

Priandana began the over with a hat-trick, dismissing Shah Abrar Hussain, Nirmaljit Singh and Chanthoeun Rathanak off consecutive deliveries. After a dot ball, he struck twice more, removing Mongdara Sok and Pel Vennak to complete a five-wicket over. Cambodia managed only a single run in the over—a wide conceded between the final two wickets—and were bowled out well short of the target.

This spell made Priandana the first player—male or female—to take five wickets in an over in T20I cricket where ball-by-ball data is officially available.

Support from the bat

Earlier in the match, Priandana opened the batting but scored a modest 6 off 11 balls. Indonesia’s innings was instead powered by wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma, who smashed an unbeaten 110 off 68 balls, including eight fours and six sixes, setting up a challenging total.

A record that sets Priandana apart

Before this match, five wickets in an over had only been recorded twice in men’s domestic T20 cricket—by Al-Amin Hossain in Bangladesh’s Victory Day T20 Cup (2013–14) and Abhimanyu Mithun in India’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2019–20).

In international T20s, bowlers had taken four wickets in an over on 14 occasions, most famously Lasith Malinga’s four-in-four against New Zealand in 2019. Priandana’s five-wicket over now stands alone as a world record.

With this landmark achievement, Gede Priandana has delivered one of the most remarkable bowling moments in T20I history, putting Indonesian cricket firmly on the global map.
