Rohit Sharma has set social media buzzing after starring in a clever promotional video for Stranger Things, released by Netflix ahead of the show’s much-awaited finale.
Blending cricket culture with pop-culture storytelling, the promo features Rohit slipping effortlessly into “captain mode”, delivering what initially appears to be a high-pressure pre-match dressing-room speech. The tone quickly shifts, however, as the ad reveals itself to be a playful crossover with the globally popular sci-fi series.
The video opens on a light-hearted note, with players dancing to Koi Sehri Babu Dil Lehri Babu, a cheeky callback to Rohit’s earlier viral dance moment alongside Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur. The mood flips instantly when Rohit storms in and asks sharply, “Are you strolling in the garden?”, establishing authority and drama.
With trademark seriousness, Rohit warns the team, “Boys, the finale is coming. Not just your careers, but your entire life could be flipped upside down.” For a moment, viewers are led to believe he is referring to a crucial cricket match. The tension builds as he adds, “These helmets won’t save you. The opposition is capable of mind games you can’t even imagine.”
The promo smartly layers humour into the suspense. When a player mutters a joke about Rohit’s double centuries, the cricketer instantly hears it and responds with mock menace. “Yes, I’ve hit double hundreds. But the next opposition can attack from anywhere — through the ground, walls, even the roof,” he says, just as the lights flicker ominously.
The crossover deepens when Rohit reveals the team kits have been designed by “Steve”. A confused player excitedly asks, “Steve Smith?” only for Rohit to correct him: “No, Steve Harrington,” referencing the fan-favourite character from Stranger Things. Another quip — “Sounds like a Ranji player” — keeps the cricket banter alive.
As Rohit opens the kit box, the outfits resemble costumes from the series. The speech turns darker when he warns, “When you see the opposition captain, it won’t be your heart that pounds — your neck will,” clearly hinting at the show’s villain. The suspense finally breaks when Rohit declares the opponent’s name — Vecna.
The promo has been widely praised for its sharp writing and Rohit Sharma’s effortless screen presence. Fans across social media have lauded his comic timing and commanding delivery, with many joking that the Indian star looks ready for a Bollywood career once he retires from cricket.
At 38, Rohit has already stepped away from Test and T20I cricket but remains active in ODIs, with his sights firmly set on the 2027 ODI World Cup. After a six-month international break, he has returned in strong form, scoring 348 runs in six matches, including a century and three half-centuries.
Currently training in Jaipur with the Mumbai squad ahead of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Rohit continues to balance elite cricket with high-profile brand appearances — and this Netflix crossover only reinforces his status as one of India’s most bankable sporting icons.
