Jio Platforms IPO Set for October 21, Could Become India’s Biggest Listing

Jio Platforms is reportedly planning a $3.8 billion IPO on October 21, with its shares expected to list on October 28.

Jio Platforms IPO planned for October 21 with listing expected on October 28
Jio Platforms is reportedly planning a $3.8 billion IPO, which could become India’s biggest stock market listing.

The Jio Platforms IPO is reportedly scheduled to open on October 21, with the Mukesh Ambani-led company aiming to raise around $3.8 billion. If the plan goes ahead as reported, the offering could become the biggest stock market listing in India.

According to sources cited by Reuters, Jio Platforms is expected to list its shares on October 28, just a week after the proposed IPO opens. The company’s massive fundraising target would put the offering ahead of Hyundai Motor India’s $2.9 billion IPO in 2024, which currently holds the record for India’s largest stock market listing.

The National Stock Exchange of India, which raised around $2.3 billion through its IPO last month, currently ranks behind Hyundai’s offering.

Where Will the IPO Money Go?

A significant portion of the money raised through the Jio Platforms IPO is expected to be used to repay debt owed by its telecom business.

Jio Platforms has expanded beyond traditional telecom services and now has operations spanning artificial intelligence, cloud services and enterprise networks. The company also counts major global technology companies, including Meta and Google, among its foreign investors.

The planned IPO could therefore become a major test of investor appetite for India’s rapidly expanding technology and digital infrastructure sector.

India’s IPO Market Remains Strong

The proposed Jio Platforms listing comes during a particularly active period for India’s primary markets. Funds raised through IPOs between April and September reached a record level for the period, reflecting continued demand for new equity offerings.

The pipeline also remains substantial. According to PRIME Database, around 250 companies are preparing to raise a combined Rs 4.65 trillion, or approximately $48 billion.

The list reportedly includes Carlsberg’s India business and Prism, the parent company of Oyo.

If Jio Platforms proceeds with its reported $3.8 billion offering, the IPO could become a landmark event for India’s capital markets and potentially set a new benchmark for large technology-led listings.
