The Jio Platforms IPO has set multiple records in India’s primary market, attracting unprecedented investor participation and substantial demand across retail, institutional and high-net-worth investor categories. The final issue value stood at ₹30,188 crore after accounting for the employee discount, overtaking Hyundai Motor India’s ₹27,870-crore IPO in 2024.
The three-day public issue closed on October 23, 2026, after opening on October 21. It received more than 1.38 crore applications, while public bids reached approximately ₹4.9 lakh crore. Cumulative demand across the public issue and anchor-investor process stood at around ₹7.4 lakh crore.
India’s Largest IPO and Fresh Share Issue
Jio’s headline offer size was ₹30,213 crore at the upper end of its price band of ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share. The offering comprised approximately 27 crore fresh shares and did not include an offer-for-sale component, meaning existing shareholders were not selling their holdings through the issue.
The company plans to use up to ₹27,500 crore of the proceeds to repay or prepay borrowings at Reliance Jio Infocomm. The remaining amount is earmarked for general corporate purposes.
Record-Breaking Investor Demand
Investors bid for 438.26 crore shares against 19.75 crore shares on offer in the public issue, translating into bids worth approximately ₹4.9 lakh crore at the upper price band. Overall, the IPO was subscribed 22.19 times.
Qualified institutional buyers, excluding anchor investors, placed bids worth approximately ₹3.87 lakh crore, with their portion subscribed 70.55 times. Eligible Reliance Industries shareholders submitted bids worth ₹19,000 crore under the reserved category.
The issue received 1,38,65,535 applications, making it the first Indian IPO to cross one crore applications. Retail investors accounted for more than 1.05 crore applications, while participation from small and large high-net-worth individuals also reached reported record levels.
Fast Subscription and Global Investor Interest
The IPO was fully subscribed within approximately 100 minutes of opening, according to published reports. Its qualified institutional buyer portion was fully subscribed within the first 10 minutes.
The anchor-investor process attracted demand of around ₹2.5 lakh crore against an eventual allocation of approximately ₹8,110 crore. Jio allotted shares to 212 anchor investor accounts and schemes.
At the offer price, Jio Platforms’ implied market capitalisation stood at approximately ₹10.3 lakh crore, equivalent to more than $100 billion.
The figures highlight the scale of investor interest in Jio’s telecom and digital services business. However, issue size, investor bids and market capitalisation measure different aspects of an IPO and should not be treated as interchangeable.
