The Kerala government has constituted a three-member expert committee to oversee Wayanad landslide debris removal following the devastating landslide that struck the district on July 7.
The panel has been tasked with inspecting the affected tunnel and township project sites and recommending a safe and time-bound strategy for clearing debris while ensuring environmental and structural safety.
So far, seven bodies have been recovered from the landslide site.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister VD Satheesan, attended by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and Public Works Minister P K Basheer, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office.
The government has directed the committee to visit the affected locations at the earliest and submit its recommendations without delay.

The recommendations will be implemented by the Public Works Department and the Project Implementation Unit.
The government has also outlined how the debris will be handled.
For the tunnel project, debris will be transported to disposal sites identified by the Public Works Department (PWD).
For the township project, the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) will identify suitable locations for depositing the excavated mud and debris.
The Wayanad District Collector has been directed to extend all necessary logistical and administrative support to the expert panel during its inspection and assessment.
The state government said the objective is to ensure that debris removal is carried out in a scientifically planned manner without creating additional environmental or safety risks.
The expert committee's report will form the basis of the final debris clearance operations at both project sites.
