National Teachers Awards 2026: President Murmu to Honour 48 Teachers on September 5

President Droupadi Murmu will honour 48 teachers with the National Teachers Awards 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on September 5, marking National Teachers’ Day.

The annual awards recognise outstanding contributions by teachers to school education and their role in shaping the lives of students. The selected educators represent government schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, specialised institutions and other educational organisations from across the country.

National Teachers’ Day is observed in India every year on September 5 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s second President, renowned philosopher and teacher.

The National Teachers Awards 2026 will recognise educators from 27 states, seven Union Territories and six Central Government organisations. Of the 48 awardees, 26 are male and 22 are female.

The teachers were selected through a three-stage process involving district, state and national-level evaluation. The selection process began with online self-nominations, with eligible teachers invited to submit their applications between June 15 and July 20, 2026.
