The team of Tamil film Parasakthi marked Pongal 2026 with a memorable cultural and political moment in New Delhi, where key members of the film met Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of the festive celebrations. The meeting brought together cinema, culture, and national recognition, highlighting Tamil cinema’s growing presence on prominent national platforms.
Director Sudha Kongara’s Parasakthi, which released earlier this month, was represented by lead actor Sivakarthikeyan, actor Ravi Mohan, and National Award-winning composer GV Prakash Kumar, among others. The interaction took place ahead of Pongal, traditionally celebrated as a harvest festival in Tamil Nadu, and was seen as a symbolic recognition of Tamil culture and creative expression at the national level.
GV Prakash shared glimpses from the meeting on social media, calling it a proud and emotional moment. One of the highlights of the event was his live performance of Thiruvaasagam, a composition from his Tamil pride album, presented in front of the Prime Minister. The performance added a cultural depth to the celebration, resonating with the festival’s spirit of gratitude, heritage, and renewal.
Photographs from the event quickly gained traction online, particularly images showing Sivakarthikeyan smiling as he stood alongside the Prime Minister and GV Prakash. Fans and industry observers described the moment as a rare and meaningful convergence of popular cinema, classical Tamil art, and national leadership. Another widely shared image showed members of the Parasakthi team seated in the front row during the event, underscoring the significance of their presence.
The Delhi visit comes at a time when Parasakthi continues to draw attention following its theatrical release. The film had faced last-minute certification hurdles before being cleared with a U/A certificate after multiple modifications. Despite receiving mixed critical responses, the makers have stated that the film has performed steadily at the box office and has turned profitable for exhibitors.
Industry voices see the Pongal interaction as more than a courtesy call, interpreting it as an acknowledgment of regional cinema’s role in shaping India’s cultural narrative. Over the past few years, Tamil films and music have increasingly found space at national and global forums, reflecting their expanding influence beyond linguistic boundaries.
For GV Prakash, performing Thiruvaasagam during a national celebration marked a personal milestone, reinforcing his commitment to showcasing Tamil literary and musical heritage. For the Parasakthi team, the meeting added a celebratory chapter to the film’s journey, blending cinema, tradition, and national pride on a single stage.
