The Lok Sabha resumed proceedings during the Budget Session 2026 amid heated exchanges between the government and opposition parties. Opposition leaders demanded an urgent discussion on the commercial LPG shortage and rising fuel concerns, leading to protests inside the House.
The developments unfolded as Parliament continued debating a resolution seeking the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, with the discussion expected to conclude during the day.
Opposition members raised concerns about the reported shortage of commercial LPG cylinders affecting businesses and households in several cities.
Leaders argued that the government should provide a clear explanation in Parliament regarding the situation and the steps being taken to address supply disruptions.
Some opposition MPs also called on the Prime Minister to directly address the issue in the House to reduce public uncertainty.
Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi launched a strong criticism of the government during the session.
He alleged that he had been prevented from raising important issues in the Lok Sabha and questioned the functioning of parliamentary procedures.
Rahul Gandhi also accused the government of avoiding discussion on key national concerns.
Members of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) strongly rejected the opposition’s accusations.
Senior leaders from the treasury benches defended the functioning of the House and maintained that parliamentary rules had been followed.
They argued that disciplinary actions taken against opposition members were due to disruptions during proceedings.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the debate.
Responding to allegations raised by the opposition, he stated that the Prime Minister’s integrity and leadership could not be questioned.
The exchange further intensified the already heated atmosphere in the House.
Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha said that there was no shortage of LPG cylinders in the country and urged people not to spread rumours.
He stated that the government had reviewed the situation and was closely monitoring supply to prevent hoarding or disruptions.
According to him, authorities remain vigilant to ensure that energy supplies remain stable.
Earlier in the day, Lok Sabha proceedings were temporarily adjourned amid opposition protests demanding a dedicated discussion on the LPG issue.
The House later reconvened as debates continued over multiple issues, including the motion seeking the removal of the Speaker.
The Budget Session has witnessed repeated confrontations between the government and opposition over economic issues, parliamentary procedures, and policy decisions.
With several key debates scheduled in the coming days, the session is expected to remain politically intense as both sides continue to push their agendas.
