Patna Schools Closed Till December 26 Due to Severe Cold Wave Conditions

The Patna district administration has ordered the closure of all government and private schools up to Class 8 till December 26 in view of severe cold wave conditions gripping the city.

The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard young children from health risks caused by plunging temperatures. The directive applies to all schools, pre-schools and Anganwadi centres across Patna district.

The order was issued by the District Magistrate under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, citing concerns that the prevailing weather conditions could adversely impact the health and safety of children.

Cold Wave Triggers Extended School Closure

According to the official notice, the region has been experiencing a persistent cold wave, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures over the past few days. The closure order will be effective from December 24 to December 26, extending an earlier directive issued on December 19.

Authorities said the move was necessary to prevent exposure of young students to extreme cold during early morning hours.

Relaxation for Senior Classes

While schools up to Class 8 will remain shut, the administration has allowed educational activities for students above Class 8 to continue with restrictions.

Classes for senior students may be conducted only between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm, ensuring limited exposure to cold conditions.

Exemptions and Instructions for Schools

The order clarifies that pre-board and board examination-related classes and exams are exempt from the restrictions and may continue as scheduled.

Schools have been directed to reschedule academic activities in accordance with the new timings and closure guidelines.

Enforcement and Compliance

Copies of the order have been circulated to senior police officials, education department authorities, block-level officers and information officials to ensure strict implementation.

The district administration has stressed coordinated enforcement and urged parents and school authorities to adhere to the guidelines until further instructions are issued.
