Bihar Makes Formal Dress Code Mandatory for Government School Teachers

Bihar has prohibited jeans and T-shirts for government school staff, directing teachers and non-teaching employees to follow formal attire during working hours.

Bihar government school teachers required to follow a formal dress code at school premises
Bihar's Education Department has directed government school teachers and non-teaching staff to wear formal attire.

The Bihar teachers' formal dress code has been made mandatory for teachers and non-teaching employees working in government schools across the state. The Education Department has prohibited casual clothing, including jeans and T-shirts, and directed staff to attend school in formal attire.

The order was issued by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) C K Anil shortly after he took charge of the department. District Education Officers (DEOs) were informed of the instructions through official communications issued on Friday, October 30. They have been asked to ensure strict implementation across their respective districts.

The directive is aimed at maintaining discipline, decorum and a dignified atmosphere in government educational institutions.

Jeans and T-Shirts Not Allowed on School Premises

Under the new instructions, teachers and other school employees must follow the prescribed formal dress code while on duty. Casual clothing, particularly jeans and T-shirts, will not be permitted on school premises during working hours.

The department has asked district-level officials to monitor compliance and take appropriate action in cases where employees fail to follow the instructions.

The move reflects the administration's emphasis on maintaining professional standards among school staff and ensuring that educational institutions provide an environment conducive to learning.

Restrictions on DJ and Disco Activities

The directive also addresses activities organised within school campuses. The department has warned against holding DJ, disco or other events considered inappropriate for educational premises. Violations could invite strict action.

However, the instructions do not impose a complete ban on music or cultural activities. Traditional music education and the use of musical instruments will continue to be permitted.

Programmes associated with occasions mentioned in the academic calendar can also be organised, provided they are conducted in a disciplined manner.

District Officials to Ensure Compliance

The state-wide directive places responsibility on District Education Officers and school authorities to ensure that teachers and non-teaching employees follow the instructions.

The order comes amid renewed administrative attention towards discipline and conduct in Bihar's government schools. It also follows earlier dress-code measures within the state's Education Department.

With the latest instructions, the department has sought to establish clearer expectations regarding staff appearance and activities conducted on school premises. Implementation will depend on monitoring by district and school-level authorities.
