Pune Airport Runway Reopens After IAF Jet Hard Landing Disruption

Flight operations at Pune International Airport have resumed after a temporary shutdown caused by a hard landing involving an Indian Air Force aircraft.

The incident took place during a routine night sortie at Air Force Station Lohegaon, leading to a precautionary closure of the runway for safety checks and repairs.

IAF Jet Hard Landing Triggers Temporary Shutdown

According to officials, the aircraft experienced a hard landing around 10:25 pm, possibly due to an undercarriage issue.

The situation resulted in the blockage of the runway, prompting authorities to suspend flight operations to ensure safety.

Both aircrew members were reported safe, and no damage to civilian infrastructure was recorded.

Runway Closed for Nearly 9 Hours

The runway remained shut for approximately nine hours as teams carried out inspections, repairs, and clearance operations.

IAF personnel worked overnight to restore the runway, ensuring that all safety standards were met before reopening it for civil aviation use.

Flight Operations Gradually Resume

Following restoration, departures resumed early in the morning, while arrivals were restarted shortly after.

Air traffic is now gradually returning to normal, although minor delays may continue as operations stabilise.

Focus on Safety and Rapid Response

The swift response by IAF and airport authorities ensured minimal disruption and quick restoration of services.

Such coordinated efforts are critical in managing unexpected aviation incidents and maintaining passenger safety.

Investigation Into Cause Underway

Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the hard landing, including possible technical issues related to the aircraft’s landing gear.

Further updates may be released once the analysis is completed.
