India-Ethiopia Bilateral Talks Focus on Defence, Critical Minerals and Global South

India and Ethiopia held bilateral discussions on expanding cooperation in several strategic and economic areas on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

The talks covered defence capacity building, investment opportunities, critical minerals, clean energy and healthcare, with both sides focusing on strengthening the broader India-Africa partnership.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of giving developing countries a stronger voice on global platforms. India and Ethiopia emphasised the need for greater advocacy for the Global South, particularly as developing nations remain vulnerable to the economic and humanitarian consequences of conflicts around the world.

A key focus of the dialogue was finding ways to deepen cooperation while addressing shared economic and geopolitical challenges. Areas such as critical minerals and clean energy were particularly significant as countries seek more resilient supply chains and sustainable growth.

The India-Ethiopia engagement was part of a series of bilateral meetings held ahead of the formal BRICS Summit proceedings at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Leaders and representatives used the meetings to discuss economic priorities, strategic cooperation and international issues of mutual concern.

The discussions underline India's efforts to strengthen its engagement with African nations while promoting greater representation and cooperation for the Global South in international affairs.
