Putin, Netanyahu Discuss Gaza Ceasefire and Iran Issue

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone conversation to review key developments across the Middle East, with a strong focus on the Gaza conflict, Iran’s nuclear programme, and stability in Syria.

According to official statements, the discussion included an exchange of views on the latest ceasefire agreement and the ongoing process of detainee exchanges between Israel and Hamas. Both leaders assessed the humanitarian and political situation in the Gaza Strip and the challenges surrounding the implementation of the truce.

The Kremlin noted that the call covered the status of Iran’s nuclear programme—an issue that has resurfaced amid rising regional tensions. The leaders also discussed efforts to stabilise Syria, where shifting alliances and ongoing security concerns continue to influence broader geopolitical calculations.

The phone call came at a time of intensified diplomatic movement at the United Nations. The United States Mission to the UN recently urged the Security Council to endorse a draft resolution based on President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan. The proposal includes:

• An immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas

• A phased withdrawal of Israeli forces

• The release of all hostages

• A transitional technocratic administration in Gaza monitored by an international “Board of Peace”

• Demilitarisation of the territory

• Long-term reconstruction measures

The plan has received broad support at recent international meetings, including a summit in Sharm el-Sheikh on October 13. Israel has publicly backed the proposal since it was presented in late September, though Hamas has not fully accepted its terms.

Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Putin initiated the latest conversation, describing it as part of a continuing series of discussions between the two leaders on urgent regional issues. Their previous call took place in October during heightened global consultations surrounding the Gaza plan.

As major powers and regional stakeholders intensify diplomatic outreach, the latest Putin–Netanyahu engagement highlights the growing international effort to navigate ceasefire implementation, geopolitical risks and evolving alliances in the Middle East.
