Actor R Madhavan has sparked conversation with his remarks about the upcoming spy thriller Dhurandhar: The Revenge, starring Ranveer Singh. Speaking ahead of the film’s theatrical release on March 19, Madhavan suggested that audiences in the UAE are so eager to watch the film that some may travel to India to experience it in cinemas.
The actor stated that despite the film being banned in the UAE, viewers there are planning trips around its release date. According to Madhavan, fans want to watch the film in packed theatres rather than opt for alternative viewing methods. He emphasised that cinema offers a collective experience that cannot be replicated at home.
Madhavan also shared his perspective on changing storytelling trends in Indian cinema. He suggested that traditional narratives centred around India–Pakistan conflicts and freedom struggles may be nearing their saturation point.
According to him, younger audiences are seeking fresh themes and are less interested in repeated depictions of geopolitical conflict. He believes that Dhurandhar: The Revenge could mark a turning point in this genre, potentially signalling a shift in the action and espionage space.
The film is directed by Aditya Dhar and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aditya Dhar, and Lokesh Dhar under Jio Studios and B62 Studios. It serves as the direct sequel to Dhurandhar (2025) and concludes the two-part franchise.
Positioned as a high-stakes espionage thriller, the sequel is expected to deliver large-scale action sequences and a gripping narrative. The film’s release strategically coincides with festive periods including Eid, Gudi Padwa, and Ugadi, aiming to maximise nationwide footfall.
In a calculated move, the film will release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. This multilingual strategy highlights the growing trend of pan-India releases, targeting audiences across regions.
Madhavan’s comments about international fan interest further underline the film’s perceived global appeal. Whether UAE audiences will indeed travel to India remains to be seen, but the buzz surrounding Dhurandhar: The Revenge suggests strong anticipation ahead of its release.
With shifting audience preferences and evolving storytelling trends, the film may become a talking point not only for its box office performance but also for its place in the changing landscape of Indian action cinema.
