A dramatic protest unfolded in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district when a man climbed a high-tension electricity tower to demand action over an alleged land encroachment dispute. The incident occurred in the Silatara outpost area, drawing the attention of local authorities and residents.
The man, identified as Kishan Lal Nishad, is a resident of Sondra village. According to local sources, he has been fighting for nearly 12 years to reclaim a piece of land that he claims was encroached upon by a steel manufacturing company.
Nishad reportedly climbed the electricity tower as a desperate attempt to draw attention to his grievance. He alleged that repeated complaints and petitions submitted to local authorities over the years had not led to any resolution.
According to people familiar with the situation, Nishad has been seeking official intervention for more than a decade to remove what he describes as an illegal occupation of his property.
The protest quickly attracted a crowd of locals who gathered near the tower after learning about the incident.
After receiving information about the situation, local administrative and police officials immediately rushed to the scene. The Tehsildar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), and police personnel arrived at the location to manage the situation and persuade the man to come down safely.
Officials began efforts to communicate with Nishad and convince him to climb down from the tower without harming himself.
High-tension electricity towers pose significant risks due to the presence of live electrical lines. Authorities therefore focused on ensuring the safety of the individual as well as the surrounding public.
According to Nishad, he had submitted several representations and requests to government authorities seeking action against the alleged encroachment. However, he claimed that his appeals had not received a satisfactory response.
Residents in the area said that land disputes involving industrial development have occasionally become sources of tension in certain regions.
Local administration officials indicated that they were assessing the matter and would look into the complaint raised by the protester.
Police and administrative teams remained at the site to prevent any untoward incident and to bring the situation under control.
Officials attempted to reassure the man that his grievance would be examined through proper legal and administrative channels.
Authorities often urge citizens to resolve such disputes through legal processes rather than resorting to dangerous forms of protest.
The incident highlights the frustrations that can arise when land disputes remain unresolved for long periods. It also underlines the importance of timely administrative intervention in such cases.
