Rinku Singh hits blazing century for UP, boosts T20 World Cup prospects

India batter Rinku Singh continued his impressive domestic run, slamming an unbeaten century for Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, underlining his strong form ahead of India’s upcoming international assignments.

Leading Uttar Pradesh, Rinku followed up his half-century against Hyderabad with a commanding 106 not out against Chandigarh at the Sanosara Cricket Ground A in Rajkot on Friday. His knock came off just 60 deliveries and was studded with 11 fours and four sixes, turning the contest decisively in UP’s favour.

Chandigarh, after opting to field first, were put under pressure early by opener Aryan Juyal, who struck a fluent 134 off 118 balls. Rinku then took charge in the middle overs, accelerating effortlessly and ensuring Uttar Pradesh posted a formidable total of 368. Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel also contributed with a steady 67 off 67 balls, strengthening the innings.

Rinku’s timely return to form is significant as India prepare for a T20I series against New Zealand, which is expected to act as a key preparatory phase ahead of the T20 World Cup. The left-hander’s clean striking and composure in pressure situations have kept him firmly in contention for a defined role in India’s middle order.

For the team management and selectors, consistent performances in domestic cricket offer reassurance about Rinku’s readiness for international challenges. As the Vijay Hazare Trophy progresses, Uttar Pradesh will hope their captain continues to lead from the front, while India’s selectors closely monitor how his momentum translates to the shortest format.
