Rohit Sharma redeems golden duck with stunning slip catch in Vijay Hazare Trophy

India skipper Rohit Sharma endured a mixed outing in Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy clash against Uttarakhand, bouncing back from a first-ball dismissal with a brilliant catch at first slip to spark celebrations among the crowd.

The incident took place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday, where a packed venue had turned up to watch Rohit in action. The anticipation, however, was short-lived as the Mumbai captain was dismissed for a golden duck, falling to fast bowler Devendra Singh Bora while attempting a pull shot off the very first delivery he faced.

Despite the early setback, Rohit made a telling impact in the field moments later. In the third over of Uttarakhand’s chase, he produced a sharp catch at first slip to dismiss Kamal Singh, giving Mumbai their opening breakthrough off the bowling of Shardul Thakur. The effort triggered loud cheers as the crowd erupted after witnessing the athletic grab.

Reports suggested that several fans had begun leaving the stadium following Rohit’s early dismissal, while others were seen appealing for a no-ball in hopes of seeing the star batter continue his innings. The mood lifted considerably after his sharp intervention in the field.

Earlier in the match, Mumbai recovered strongly after losing early wickets. Following the dismissals of Rohit and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Sarfaraz Khan and Musheer Khan steadied the innings with a crucial 107-run partnership. Sarfaraz and Musheer both scored fluent half-centuries, laying the foundation for a competitive total.

The finishing touches were applied by Hardik Tamore, who remained unbeaten on 93, and Shams Mulani, whose quick 48 helped Mumbai post an imposing 331 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs. For Uttarakhand, Devendra Singh Bora stood out with figures of 3 for 74.
