Samajwadi Party Leader Dies After High Mast Pole Falls on Car in Pratapgarh

A tragic accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh claimed the life of a local Samajwadi Party leader after a high mast light pole collapsed onto his moving car on Sunday. The incident occurred in a busy market area and was captured on CCTV, prompting concerns over safety practices during installation work.

The deceased, 48-year-old Lal Bahadur Yadav, was travelling from Babuganj towards Pratapgarh city in his vehicle when the accident took place just about 500 metres from his residence.

Pole Collapse During Installation Work

According to officials and local witnesses, a nearly 65-foot-high high mast pole was being erected near a petrol pump with the help of a crane. The structure, weighing approximately 40 quintals, was in the process of installation when the crane’s strap reportedly snapped.

The sudden failure caused the heavy pole to crash directly onto Yadav’s moving car, crushing the vehicle.

Rescue Efforts and Medical Response

Residents and bystanders rushed to the scene immediately after the accident. They broke open the car door and pulled Yadav out before transporting him to a nearby community health centre. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The incident has shocked local residents, as the accident occurred in a crowded area during daytime activity.

Investigation Underway

Police officials confirmed that the case has been registered and an inquiry has been initiated to examine safety measures followed during the installation work. Authorities are expected to investigate whether proper precautions and operational standards were maintained.

The incident has raised serious questions about safety compliance during infrastructure installation in public areas.

About Lal Bahadur Yadav

Lal Bahadur Yadav was known locally as a Samajwadi Party leader and worked as a Public Works Department contractor. He also held a country liquor contract and had contested the Antu Nagar Panchayat elections twice.

Family members said he was the eldest among his siblings. He is survived by four daughters and one son.

Safety Concerns in Public Work Zones

The accident highlights the risks associated with heavy infrastructure work in populated areas. Experts emphasize that strict safety protocols, traffic control measures, and barricading are essential during installation of large structures to prevent such tragedies.

Residents have urged authorities to enforce stronger safety checks and accountability measures to ensure public safety during construction and installation activities.
