Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Announces Rs 50 Lakh Each for Asian Games Silver Medallists

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has announced a cash reward of Rs 50 lakh each for athletes Vithya Ramraj and Vishal T K after they helped India win silver in the mixed 4x400m relay at the Asian Games. The announcement comes days after the state government awarded Rs 75 lakh to cricketer G Kamalini following India’s women’s T20 gold.

Vithya and Vishal were part of India’s relay team alongside TS Manu and MR Poovamma. The quartet clocked 3:14.46 to secure silver, while Bahrain won gold with a Games-record time of 3:12.87. The result marked India’s third consecutive podium finish in the mixed 4x400m relay at the Asian Games.

Vithya Ramraj, who competes in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, has previously represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also won medals in the mixed relay and 400m hurdles at the Asian Games and secured a bronze at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships.

Vishal T K has also had a notable run in the 400m. He became the first Indian athlete to break the 45-second barrier in the men’s 400m when he clocked 44.98 seconds at the 2025 National Federation Senior Athletics Championships, setting a national record.

The latest awards mean three Tamil Nadu athletes from India’s medal-winning Asian Games teams have recently received cash recognition from the state government.
