The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is expected to declare the Civil Services Preliminary Examination (CSE) 2026 results shortly, bringing an end to the anxious wait of lakhs of aspirants across the country.
Although the Commission has not officially confirmed the result date, candidates can expect the results to be announced by mid-June. The UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination was conducted on May 24, 2026, at examination centres across India.
The result will determine which candidates qualify for the next stage of the prestigious Civil Services Examination process—the UPSC Mains Examination.
With around 5.49 lakh candidates appearing for the Preliminary Examination, competition remains intense for entry into India's most sought-after government services.
The Civil Services Examination is conducted annually to recruit officers for various Central Government services, including:
The examination remains one of the most competitive recruitment processes in the country.
Candidates can follow these steps once the result is released:
Visit the official UPSC website:
Click on the "What's New" or "Examination" section available on the homepage.
Select the link titled "Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026 Result."
Download the PDF file containing the roll numbers of qualified candidates.
Use the search function (Ctrl + F) to find your roll number.
Save the PDF for future reference.
UPSC generally publishes the result in PDF format listing only the roll numbers of successful candidates.
Candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Examination will become eligible to appear for the Civil Services Main Examination 2026.
According to the examination schedule, the UPSC CSE Mains 2026 is expected to begin from August 21, 2026.
Qualified candidates will also need to complete the Detailed Application Form (DAF), which is mandatory for appearing in the Mains examination.
The DAF requires candidates to provide personal information, educational details, service preferences, category details, and other important information.
While UPSC does not release cut-off marks immediately after the Prelims result, coaching institutes and subject experts have shared various estimates based on exam difficulty and student feedback.
However, candidates are advised not to rely solely on unofficial predictions.
The official cut-off marks are released only after the entire examination process, including the final result, is completed.
The UPSC Civil Services Examination consists of three stages:
Objective-type screening test.
Descriptive written examination covering various subjects.
Assessment of a candidate's suitability for public service.
Only candidates who clear all three stages successfully are included in the final merit list.
Experts recommend that aspirants should continue preparing for the Mains examination without waiting for the official result.
Given the short gap between the Prelims result and the Mains examination, early preparation can provide a significant advantage.
Candidates who are confident about their performance in the Preliminary Examination are advised to focus on answer writing practice, current affairs, essay preparation, and optional subjects.
Candidates should rely only on official UPSC notifications for result announcements and examination-related updates.
Official information regarding results, DAF submission, Mains schedules, and examination guidelines will be available through:
With lakhs of aspirants awaiting the outcome, the UPSC Civil Services Prelims Result 2026 is expected to be one of the most closely watched education announcements of the year.
