Alia Bhatt’s Alpha Postponed to Avoid Clash With Salman Khan’s Battle of Galwan

Yash Raj Films has postponed the theatrical release of its upcoming spy thriller Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, to avoid a box-office clash with Battle of Galwan, headlined by Salman Khan, according to a trade report.

The film was earlier slated for release on April 17, 2026. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the development on X, stating that the decision was taken to steer clear of direct competition with the high-profile war drama.

Second postponement for Alpha

This marks the second delay for Alpha. The film was initially planned for a Christmas 2025 release but was pushed back due to extended post-production requirements, particularly extensive visual effects work.

In his post, Adarsh noted that Yash Raj Films has now opted to reassess the theatrical calendar over the coming months before announcing a revised release date.

Key film in YRF Spy Universe

Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is the sixth instalment in the Yash Raj Films Spy Universe, which includes blockbuster franchises such as Tiger, War and Pathaan. The film was formally introduced through a post-credits sequence in War 2 earlier this year.

Alpha also holds significance as YRF’s first female-led spy thriller, with Alia Bhatt and Sharvari leading the narrative. Bobby Deol is also part of the cast.

New release window awaited

While Yash Raj Films has not announced a fresh release date, industry watchers expect Alpha to hit cinemas in the second half of 2026. The production house is reportedly keen to ensure a clear theatrical window, given the film’s importance within its expanding spy franchise.
