Ancient Shivling Vandalised at Draksharamam Temple, Andhra CM Orders Strict Action

An ancient Shiva Lingam was vandalised at the Draksharamam Bhimeswara Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh on the auspicious occasion of Mukkoti Ekadashi, triggering widespread outrage among devotees and political leaders.

The incident occurred at Kapileswara Ghat within the temple premises, where the centuries-old Lingam, located along the banks of the Sapta Godavari river behind the main shrine, was found damaged. Devotees described the act as deeply distressing, noting that Draksharamam is revered as one of the Pancharama Kshetras and holds immense spiritual significance for lakhs of worshippers.

Local residents and temple devotees demanded swift action, urging authorities to identify the perpetrators and impose strict punishment. Calls were also made for stronger security arrangements and enhanced surveillance at heritage and religious sites to prevent similar incidents.

Political leaders across party lines condemned the vandalism and pressed the state government to treat the matter with utmost seriousness. They stressed that such acts not only damage ancient heritage but also hurt religious sentiments.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu took cognisance of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Endowments Department. He was informed that special police teams have been constituted and that senior district officials, including the Superintendent of Police and the Collector, are overseeing the investigation.

The Chief Minister directed officials to identify those responsible at the earliest and ensure strict legal action. He also sought regular updates on the progress of the probe, assuring devotees that the state government would act firmly to protect religious sites and heritage structures.
