Apple Cuts Jobs in Sales Division as Part of Customer Engagement Overhaul

Apple has initiated targeted layoffs within its sales division, marking a rare workforce reduction for the tech giant, which had previously avoided large-scale job cuts seen across Silicon Valley this year.

According to a report by Reuters, Apple confirmed that it is eliminating roles across its sales teams as part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and strengthen how it engages with enterprise and institutional customers.

The company described the cuts as affecting a small number of employees, adding that hiring continues in other business areas. Apple also noted that impacted staff will have the opportunity to apply for internal roles.

A Bloomberg report indicated that those affected include account managers responsible for large business clients, educational organisations, and government agencies. Employees working at Apple’s briefing centres, which host demonstrations for enterprise customers, were also part of the restructuring.

One of the most significant impacts reportedly came within Apple’s government sales team, which works with agencies including the US Defense Department and Justice Department. The division had already been struggling due to the recent 43-day US government shutdown and budget reductions implemented by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Apple did not reveal how many roles are being eliminated or which regions are affected.

The layoffs come at a time when multiple major US corporations—including Verizon, Synopsys, and IBM—have announced fresh rounds of workforce reductions amid slowing growth and cautious enterprise spending.

While Apple has not carried out mass layoffs like other tech giants, this move reflects increasing pressure across the industry to cut costs, restructure teams, and adapt to ongoing economic uncertainty.
