UP Council Schools Infrastructure Revamp: Rs 604 Crore Sanctioned for Modernization

A massive infrastructure overhaul is underway for state-run primary and upper primary council schools, backed by a sanctioned budget of Rs 604 crore intended to reconstruct and repair thousands of learning spaces. The state administration has formally approved the extensive modernization plan to eliminate dilapidated structures and replace them with safer, better-equipped educational facilities suited for young learners. To ensure swift execution, an initial installment of Rs 302 crore has already been disbursed so that construction and restoration work can commence promptly under strictly enforced building guidelines.

Under this financial outlay, the primary school segment receives the largest share, with Rs 344.52 crore designated for the comprehensive repair and rebuilding of 2,243 institutions. Individual primary schools have been earmarked roughly Rs 15.36 lakh each, supported by an immediate fund release of Rs 172.26 crore to address core structural needs and essential amenities. Alongside physical reconstruction, priority is being placed on providing standard classroom setups and upgrading basic student services, with overall project progress tracked through dedicated district and state-level oversight committees.

For upper primary education, an allocation of Rs 259.95 crore has been dedicated to restoring 883 schools, setting aside approximately Rs 29.44 lakh per institution. The first installment of Rs 129.97 crore has been released to jumpstart work across these facilities. By focusing on large-scale structural renovations and enhanced classroom safety, the statewide push aims to transform aging public school premises into secure, resilient, and forward-looking centers for elementary education.
