Australia Eyes India’s Growing Space Sector at Bengaluru Space Expo 2026, Seeks Deeper Partnerships

Australia is looking to strengthen its partnership with India’s rapidly growing space sector as a 12-member delegation participates in Bengaluru Space Expo 2026 to explore new opportunities in technology, manufacturing, satellite systems and strategic cooperation.

The Australian delegation includes companies and institutions working in launch and re-entry technologies, Earth observation, satellite systems, space debris management, advanced manufacturing and space research. Three Australian universities are also part of the delegation.

Australia is participating as the technology country partner at the ninth edition of Bengaluru Space Expo, being held in Bengaluru from September 7 to 9. The growing engagement reflects increasing cooperation between the Indian and Australian space ecosystems.

India's private space industry has expanded rapidly in recent years, with more than 400 space-tech startups now operating across the country. The sector's growth has created opportunities for international companies looking to collaborate with Indian startups, manufacturers and technology providers.

Launch and re-entry systems are among the major areas being explored for cooperation. While India has developed strong launch capabilities, Australia offers advantages including vast open spaces, relatively uncongested skies and developing ground infrastructure.

Australian companies are also exploring partnerships with Indian organisations in additive manufacturing, satellite communications, Earth observation data and analytics. The aim is to combine specialised Australian technologies with India's growing industrial base and startup ecosystem.

The India-Australia space partnership has already gained momentum over the past few years. Australian companies announced eight new partnerships with Indian organisations at the Bengaluru Space Expo in 2024, following six agreements signed during the 2022 edition of the event. Several Australian space companies have also established operations in India.

Beyond commercial opportunities, the two countries are expanding cooperation in strategically important areas such as maritime security, Earth observation and space domain awareness.

The partnership is also expected to focus on shared challenges and opportunities across the Indo-Pacific region. Civil space programmes, industrial cooperation, launch and re-entry technologies, and space-enabled services are likely to remain important areas of engagement.

As India's private space ecosystem continues to grow, Bengaluru Space Expo 2026 is emerging as an important platform for strengthening international partnerships. Australia's participation highlights the increasing global interest in India's space industry and the potential for deeper cooperation between the two countries across commercial, technological and strategic areas.
