Chennai Student Alleges Internship Centre Owner Drugged, Sexually Assaulted Her

A 22-year-old physiotherapy student in Chennai has alleged that she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the owner of a private physiotherapy centre where she was undergoing her internship, prompting police action.

According to the complaint, the woman had joined the centre in the Peravallur area to complete her mandatory internship under the supervision of a man identified as Karthikeyan. On Saturday, he allegedly asked her to accompany him for home visits to treat patients.

After completing two visits, the accused reportedly told the intern that another patient required physiotherapy treatment. While travelling in a car, he allegedly offered her a soft drink that was laced with an intoxicating substance.

Police said the woman lost consciousness soon after consuming the drink and was later sexually assaulted. After regaining consciousness, she informed her sister, following which the family approached the Kolathur All Women Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.

Based on the complaint and preliminary investigation, the police arrested Karthikeyan on charges of sexual assault. Officials said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence.

Police have reiterated that strict action will be taken in accordance with the law, and the case is being probed from all legal angles.
