Delhi government school teachers assigned booth-level officer (BLO) duties during holidays or school vacations will be eligible for special earned leave, compensatory leave or earned leave, according to instructions circulated by the Directorate of Education.
The decision follows requests from teachers’ associations seeking leave benefits for election-related duties performed outside regular school working days. The issue was taken up after communications from Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission regarding leave provisions for teachers deployed as BLOs.
Under the instructions, teachers carrying out BLO responsibilities during holidays or vacation periods can avail the applicable leave benefits. The Directorate of Education has circulated the directions among heads of government schools and other officials for necessary action.
The circular also outlines the prescribed remuneration for BLOs and BLO supervisors. A BLO is entitled to annual remuneration of Rs 12,000, while a BLO supervisor is entitled to Rs 18,000 under the existing instructions.
In addition, BLOs can receive a special incentive of Rs 2,000 for duties linked to Special Summary Revision, Summary Revision and other special election drives.
The move provides formal recognition of election-related responsibilities undertaken by government school teachers during periods when schools are closed, while also clarifying the leave and financial benefits applicable to such duties.
