Hero Motors IPO Opens at Rs 84: GMP, Financials and Key Risks

Hero Motors’ Rs 1,000 crore IPO opened for subscription on September 16 and will remain available until September 18. The shares are expected to list on the NSE and BSE on September 23. The price band is set at Rs 79-84 per share, with a lot size of 178 shares, requiring Rs 14,952 at the upper price band for one retail lot.

The issue includes a fresh issue worth Rs 600 crore and an offer for sale of Rs 400 crore. The grey market premium stood at Rs 19 on September 16, implying an indicative listing price of around Rs 103 at the upper band. However, GMP is unofficial and does not guarantee the actual listing price or returns.

Hero Motors develops powertrain technologies for global automotive manufacturers, covering electric, hybrid and internal-combustion applications. Its products include CVTs, EV transmissions, electric motors, integrated drive units and gear sets. The company operates manufacturing facilities in India, the UK and Thailand.

Its financial performance improved between FY24 and FY26. Revenue rose from Rs 1,064.39 crore to Rs 1,188.35 crore, while EBITDA increased from Rs 86.28 crore to Rs 147.78 crore. Profit after tax grew from Rs 17.04 crore to Rs 41.17 crore.

Key risks include overseas-market exposure, customer concentration and fluctuations in steel prices and availability. The top 10 customers accounted for 72.89% of FY26 revenue, while Europe contributed 33.59%. The fresh issue proceeds will partly support debt repayment, capacity expansion and strategic initiatives.
