High Security Alert in Delhi Over Suspected Lashkar Plot Near Red Fort

Security agencies have issued a high alert across Delhi following intelligence inputs warning of a possible terror plot targeting crowded religious and heritage locations in the national capital. The alert focuses particularly on areas around the Red Fort and temples in the densely populated Chandni Chowk locality.

According to intelligence sources, Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is suspected of planning an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Old Delhi. The inputs suggest that heavily visited religious sites and tourist zones could be potential targets due to the large number of daily visitors.

Officials believe the suspected plot may be linked to retaliatory motives following a recent blast at a mosque in Islamabad earlier this month. Background of previous terror attack

The heightened alert comes nearly three months after a deadly car bombing near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025. The explosion, triggered by an explosives-laden vehicle near the Red Fort Metro Station, killed at least 12 people and injured more than 20 others. Several vehicles in the vicinity caught fire following the blast.

Investigators later confirmed that ammonium nitrate-based explosives were used in the attack. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Umar Mohammad, also known as Umar Un Nabi, who was allegedly linked to a larger terror module operating in neighbouring Haryana.

Probe agencies reported that the blast occurred shortly after security forces recovered a large quantity of explosives in Faridabad and arrested suspected associates connected to the network. Investigators believe the explosion may have been triggered prematurely amid mounting pressure from security operations.
