Monsoon Rain and Thunderstorms to Hit These Parts of India Today, IMD Issues Latest Forecast

Rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to remain active across several parts of eastern and northeastern India on Wednesday, September 9, as weather systems over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar continue to influence conditions across the region.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in several states, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal and Sikkim.

A cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar is contributing to the ongoing wet weather. The monsoon trough is also extending across northern and central India towards the northeast Bay of Bengal, supporting continued rainfall activity across several regions.

Heavy Rain Alert for East and Northeast India

Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and several northeastern states are expected to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

The weather department has also forecast thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of around 30 to 40 kmph at isolated locations in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Sikkim.

Similar weather conditions are likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Parts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal could experience thunderstorms accompanied by stronger gusty winds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph. Andhra Pradesh may also witness strong surface winds at isolated places.

Rainfall to Continue in Several States

The wet spell is expected to continue across eastern and northeastern India over the coming days. Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and the northeastern states are likely to experience repeated spells of rainfall.

Heavy rain is forecast to continue in several regions on September 9. Odisha could witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall around September 10 as weather conditions remain favourable for intense showers.

The influence of the existing weather system is also expected to continue over parts of central and eastern India.

Fresh Low-Pressure Area May Develop

The IMD has indicated the possibility of a fresh low-pressure area forming over parts of the Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha around September 11.

The development of a new low-pressure system could further influence rainfall patterns across eastern and central India in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Delhi and Haryana are expected to receive only isolated rainfall, with no widespread rain forecast for the region.

Residents in areas under heavy rain and thunderstorm forecasts should remain alert to local weather warnings, particularly in regions likely to experience lightning, gusty winds and intense rainfall.
