Israel Releases First Official Video of Iran Strikes Under Operation Roaring Lion

Israel on Saturday released its first official video showing airstrikes in western Iran under what it has named Operation Roaring Lion, marking a sharp escalation in hostilities across the Middle East.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said hundreds of targets were struck as part of the operation. The strikes come amid coordinated US–Israeli military action targeting key Iranian leadership and security installations.

Coordinated US–Israeli Strikes

The Israeli operation unfolded alongside a parallel US mission reportedly titled Operation Epic Fury. According to sources familiar with the developments, the initial wave focused primarily on Iranian officials and strategic infrastructure.

An Israeli official indicated that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian were among the intended targets. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the outcome of those strikes.

US President Donald Trump described the action as necessary to eliminate security threats and urged Iranian citizens to “take over” their government once military operations conclude.

Iran Launches Retaliatory Strikes

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards confirmed that a first wave of missile and drone attacks had been launched in response. Iranian officials stated that US bases and allied interests across the region were within range.

Missile activity and explosions were reported in several Gulf nations. Witnesses in the United Arab Emirates described hearing multiple loud booms, while Bahrain confirmed that the service centre of the US Fifth Fleet had been targeted.

Qatar stated that it had intercepted missiles aimed at its territory and reaffirmed its right to respond.

Diplomatic Hopes Diminish

The renewed confrontation significantly dims prospects for a diplomatic resolution to Iran’s long-standing nuclear dispute with Western nations. Recent indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran had failed to yield progress.

Iran has consistently denied pursuing nuclear weapons, stating it is willing to discuss restrictions on its nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief, but it has refused to negotiate over its ballistic missile programme.

Israel’s Strategic Messaging

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes aim to create conditions for the Iranian people to determine their own future. Defence Minister Israel Katz described the campaign as pre-emptive and focused on neutralising imminent threats.

The IDF’s release of strike footage is being viewed as both operational transparency and strategic messaging — signalling capability, reach and intent.

Regional Impact

The escalation follows earlier rounds of confrontation between Israel and Iran, including a 12-day aerial conflict last June. Airspace closures, heightened military readiness and market volatility are spreading across the Gulf region.

With retaliatory actions underway and diplomatic channels strained, Operation Roaring Lion marks a pivotal moment in Middle East geopolitics — one that could reshape regional alliances and global security dynamics in the weeks ahead.
