Jamui Minor Harassment Case: 3 Arrested, SIT Formed, 32 Accounts Flagged

Three minors have been arrested in connection with the alleged harassment and molestation of two Class 10 students in Bihar’s Jamui, while police have formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the incident and identify other suspects. The case came to light after a video of the incident was widely circulated on social media.

The incident occurred on September 19 near Madwa Pahad, when the two students were returning from coaching on a scooter. Police said a group stopped them, allegedly assaulted and harassed them, and prevented them from leaving. One of the accused reportedly recorded the incident, after which the footage surfaced online. Police have identified around seven to eight people linked to the case and are searching for the remaining suspects.

Police have also initiated action against 32 social media accounts accused of circulating footage that could reveal the minors’ identities. The accounts include 13 on Facebook, 12 on Instagram and seven on X. Authorities warned that sharing material identifying a minor can attract action under child-protection laws.

The incident has drawn political reactions, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi calling for prosecution under the POCSO Act. The police investigation is continuing, including efforts to establish the roles of all those involved and trace the remaining accused.
