Dulquer Salmaan is once again stepping into the world of intense, atmospheric storytelling, and the newly released trailer of Kaantha makes it clear that he’s returning to the genre that has given him some of his finest performances. The film, directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, is a period drama steeped in ego clashes, artistic rivalry, and the politics of filmmaking—territory Dulquer embraces with remarkable ease.
The trailer, revealed across languages with major support from industry giants — Prabhas launched the Telugu version and Silambarasan TR unveiled the Tamil one — has quickly captured attention for its scale and emotional complexity. Dulquer himself shared the trailer with a note that hinted at the team’s passion: “Here’s a world we’ve poured our hearts into — hope it hooks you in!”
The story dives into a conflict that stirs both personal ambition and creative power. Samuthirakani plays Ayya, a principled director leading Modern Pictures’ new horror project Shaantha. Dulquer stars as TK Mahadeva, the celebrated “Nata Chakravarthi,” whose involvement alters the course of the film. What begins as a collaboration soon spirals into a tense contest of pride and authority, with Mahadeva’s overpowering presence threatening to overshadow Ayya’s vision.
Bhagyashri Borse plays Kumari, the heroine who stands firmly by Ayya, intensifying the emotional currents between the two men. Rana Daggubati appears as a police officer whose role adds another layer to the brewing conflict. His presence hints at deeper trouble—suggesting that the clash is not limited to creativity alone, but spills into darker territory.
The visuals in the trailer are striking, with a rich period texture and cinematic depth that complement the narrative’s intensity. Jhanu Chanthar’s music elevates the tension, offering haunting undertones that match the story’s mood. Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri appear strong in their roles, while Dulquer brings an air of layered arrogance and emotional vulnerability that makes Mahadeva instantly compelling.
Dulquer’s affinity for period dramas has only grown stronger in recent years, with films like Lucky Baskhar, King of Kotha, and Sita Ramam reinforcing his reputation for choosing textured, emotionally rich stories. Kaantha, like his acclaimed role in Mahanati, once again places him in a film about cinema itself—an arena where he thrives.
Produced by Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri, and Jom Varghese under Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films, Kaantha is set for a grand release in Telugu and Tamil on November 14, 2025.
The trailer promises a film that’s not just visually grand, but thematically bold — exploring the thin line between artistic brilliance and destructive ego. Dulquer’s return to this genre feels both familiar and refreshingly ambitious.
