Military Conflict Not a Solution: PM Modi Calls for End to Iran and Ukraine Wars

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for an early end to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only effective ways to resolve international disputes.

Speaking during a joint press conference with Finland President Alexander Stubb in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said military confrontation cannot provide lasting solutions and stressed the importance of diplomatic engagement to restore peace.

His remarks come at a time when global tensions have escalated due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and the rapidly intensifying conflict involving Iran.

PM Modi Emphasizes Dialogue and Diplomacy

During the joint media briefing, PM Modi said India and Finland share a strong commitment to international law and peaceful conflict resolution.

He noted that both nations believe disputes should be addressed through dialogue rather than military action.

The Prime Minister expressed hope that ongoing wars in Ukraine and West Asia would end soon, adding that India will continue to support global efforts aimed at achieving long-term peace.

According to Modi, the current global situation highlights the importance of diplomatic cooperation among major nations.

Growing India–Europe Cooperation

PM Modi also highlighted the strengthening relationship between India and Europe, describing the current period as a “golden era” of partnership.

He said closer collaboration between India and European countries could contribute significantly to global stability, economic growth and shared prosperity.

The Prime Minister added that cooperation between the two regions is becoming increasingly important at a time when the world is facing uncertainty and multiple geopolitical challenges.

Ukraine War Continues Into Fourth Year

The war in Ukraine began in February 2022 after Russia launched a large-scale invasion of the country. The conflict quickly became the most serious military confrontation in Europe since the Second World War.

Over the past four years, the war has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and forced millions of people to leave their homes.

Ukraine has received strong military and financial support from the United States and several European countries. The conflict has also been influenced by long-standing geopolitical tensions surrounding Ukraine’s ties with Western nations and its interest in joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Despite multiple diplomatic initiatives and negotiations, the conflict has largely remained unresolved, turning into a prolonged war of attrition.

Middle East Conflict Intensifies

The situation in the Middle East has also become increasingly volatile after coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.

The operation targeted key Iranian military installations and command centres. The initial attacks reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, dramatically escalating tensions in the region.

Following the strikes, Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli positions and military installations linked to the United States.

Several Gulf nations activated air defence systems and restricted airspace as missiles and drones crossed parts of the region.

The conflict has already caused significant disruption to aviation routes and energy infrastructure in the Gulf.

Global Calls for Restraint

Governments around the world have urged all parties involved in the conflicts to avoid further escalation.

Many countries, including India and several European nations, have repeatedly called for diplomatic negotiations and restraint to prevent the crises from expanding into larger regional wars.

Analysts warn that continued military confrontation in both Ukraine and the Middle East could have serious consequences for global security, economic stability and international relations.

PM Modi’s remarks reflect India’s long-standing diplomatic approach of encouraging dialogue, cooperation and peaceful resolution of conflicts on the global stage.
