Muneeba Ali run-out: Pakistan breaks silence after ICC Women's World Cup 2025 clash

Pakistan pacer Diana Baig finally broke her silence on Muneeba Ali’s controversial run-out against India during the sixth match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.

Baig said the matter had already been resolved and there was no need for further discussion, following confusion over the dismissal on the final ball of the fourth over. Pakistan questioned the decision while Ali remained on the field.

The incident unfolded when Muneeba, batting out of her crease to counter swing, initially grounded her bat behind the crease before Deepti Sharma’s throw hit the stumps as she briefly lifted her bat. Despite appearing to be in her ground, the third umpire Kerrin Klaaste ultimately ruled her out, leaving Pakistan at 6 for 1 in four overs during their chase of 248.

Former Australian cricketer Mel Jones explained the MCC law, noting that since Muneeba was not running or diving, the run-out decision was controversial under cricket law 30.1.2.

India dominated the match, with Harleen Deol’s 46 off 65 balls and Richa Ghosh’s 35 off 20 balls helping post 247 on a sluggish track. Kranti Gaud (3/20) led India’s bowling attack, dismantling Pakistan’s top order, while Sidra Amin’s valiant 81 off 106 balls couldn’t prevent an 88-run defeat.

With this win, India extended their perfect ODI record against Pakistan to 12-0.
