Rajasthan hostel row: 50 tribal girls complain of worms in food, poor conditions; Collector orders probe

Around 50 students from a Tribal Girls' Hostel in Rajasthan's Sirohi district approached the District Collectorate to raise concerns over the quality of food and living conditions at their hostel.

The students alleged that they had been facing problems for some time, including poor hygiene, inadequate facilities and unsatisfactory living arrangements. One of their major complaints was about the food served at the hostel, with students claiming that worms had been found in their meals.

The girls also raised allegations about the behaviour of the hostel warden when they complained about the conditions.

Students walk to Collectorate with complaints

The students reportedly walked from the hostel to the District Collectorate to bring their grievances directly to the district administration.

They told officials that the problems were not limited to food and included cleanliness and basic amenities at the hostel.

The allegations have raised concerns about the quality of facilities being provided to tribal girl students living in the government hostel.

Sirohi Collector orders detailed investigation

District Collector Rohitashva Singh Tomar met the students and listened to their complaints for around an hour.

Taking the allegations seriously, the Collector summoned the SDM, Tehsildar and Additional District Project Coordinator (ADPC) of the Education Department.

He ordered officials to conduct a detailed investigation into the complaints and directed the immediate formation of an inquiry committee to establish the facts.

The probe is expected to examine the students' allegations regarding food quality, cleanliness, hostel facilities and the conduct of the warden.

Students sent back to hostel

After the meeting at the Collectorate, arrangements were made to safely return the students to the hostel.

Following the Collector's instructions, the girls were transported back in around four government vehicles.

The inquiry will now determine whether the allegations made by the students are substantiated and whether corrective action is required at the hostel.
