Samay Raina-Sharon Verma Roast Over Bihar, Kashmir Goes Viral on India’s Got Latent

A sharp exchange between comedians Samay Raina and Sharon Verma on India’s Got Latent 2 has gone viral after the two traded jokes about their Bihar and Kashmir backgrounds.

The roast began with Samay Raina joking about Sharon Verma’s Bihari roots before Sharon fired back with a joke about his Kashmiri identity. The exchange became a highlight of the episode as both comedians continued taking digs at each other.

During the episode, Samay joked about Sharon being from Bihar, while Sharon responded with a reference to Raina’s Kashmiri background. Raina then took another jab at Sharon’s decision to move from Bihar to Mumbai, to which she replied that she had left her state by choice.

The exchange drew attention because both comedians have previously incorporated their backgrounds and personal experiences into their comedy.

Sharon Verma first gained wider recognition after appearing on India’s Got Latent in 2024. Her deadpan delivery and jokes about her Bihar background, her name and her description of herself as a “weak, independent woman” helped her clips gain traction on social media.

Samay Raina, meanwhile, has frequently spoken about his Kashmiri Pandit roots and his family’s displacement from Kashmir.

SAMAY RAINA ON HIS KASHMIRI PANDIT ROOTS

Raina has previously discussed his family’s experience during the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the early 1990s.

In his stand-up special Still Alive, he spoke about what he described as “Kashmiri Pandit wisdom” and connected it to his family’s experience of leaving Kashmir.

He also discussed his family’s displacement during an earlier members-only episode of India’s Got Latent 2. During a conversation about family-owned apple orchards, Raina made a reference to his own family having owned property in Kashmir before the displacement.

The exodus forced generations of Kashmiri Pandit families to leave the Valley amid escalating militancy. Raina has previously described how his family left their home overnight expecting to return within weeks, but ultimately remained displaced for years.

In an earlier podcast conversation, Raina recalled the emotional impact of losing his childhood home and sense of belonging. He also said his family moved from Jammu to Delhi before eventually settling in Hyderabad.

SHARON VERMA’S COMEDY JOURNEY

Sharon Verma became an internet favourite after her appearance on India’s Got Latent in 2024. Her understated delivery and self-deprecating jokes helped her performance spread widely across social media.

Her Bihar identity has also become a recurring part of her comedy, making it a familiar subject for audiences and fellow comedians.

The latest exchange with Raina therefore quickly turned into a viral moment, with viewers reacting to the way both comedians used their own regional identities as material for a roast.

While the jokes were rooted in personal backgrounds, the segment also reflected the style of India’s Got Latent, where comedians and contestants frequently engage in unscripted and provocative banter.

The Bihar-Kashmir roast has since become one of the talking points from the latest episode, with social media users debating the jokes, the comeback and the personal nature of the exchange.
