A routine hearing in the Supreme Court took a dramatic turn on Friday after a petitioner appearing in person allegedly threw documents inside the courtroom, shouted at the Bench and was escorted out by security personnel.
The incident occurred during the hearing of a petition challenging an order of the Allahabad High Court before a Bench comprising Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe. Court proceedings were briefly disrupted before order was restored.
According to details available from the proceedings, the petitioner adopted an unusually confrontational tone while addressing the Bench at the very beginning of the hearing.
The petitioner reportedly demanded that the court direct the registration of an FIR against a police officer in Lucknow and addressed the judges in a manner that prompted an immediate response from the Bench.
Justice KV Viswanathan questioned the petitioner's remarks after he appeared to issue directions to the court, asking whether he was "ordering" the judges.
The petitioner then responded by saying that everything relevant to the case was already on record.
The situation escalated shortly afterwards when the petitioner allegedly threw case papers into the courtroom.
According to reports, he also used abusive language during the outburst, prompting immediate intervention by court security personnel.
The disruption briefly interrupted the hearing before security officials escorted the petitioner out of the courtroom.
Court security personnel acted quickly to remove the petitioner, allowing proceedings to resume.
Despite the disruption, the Bench remained composed throughout the incident and did not engage with the petitioner after the outburst.
No injuries or damage were reported during the episode.
The matter being heard involved a challenge to an order passed by the Allahabad High Court.
However, the courtroom disruption overshadowed the legal arguments in the case.
As of now, authorities have not disclosed additional details regarding the petitioner or whether any separate legal or contempt proceedings will be initiated following the incident.
Indian courts require all participants—including advocates, litigants and individuals appearing in person—to maintain decorum during judicial proceedings.
Disruptive behaviour, abusive language or actions that interfere with court proceedings may invite legal consequences under applicable laws or the court's inherent powers.
Security personnel are authorised to intervene whenever courtroom safety or order is threatened.
