Tej Pratap Yadav Booked for Using Police Vehicle During Bihar Nomination

Bihar politics witnessed a fresh controversy as Tej Pratap Yadav, elder son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and leader of Janshakti Janta Dal, was booked for violating the model code of conduct (MCC) during the filing of his nomination papers from the Mahua assembly constituency in Vaishali district. The incident occurred on October 16, 2025, and gained attention after a video showing Yadav using a vehicle with a police logo and a beacon light went viral on social media.

According to a statement issued by the district police, the Circle Officer of Mahua lodged a formal complaint after examining the video. Police investigations revealed that the SUV in question bore a private police logo and beacon light, and a case was subsequently registered under the election code of conduct violation. Authorities emphasized that the misuse of symbols associated with law enforcement during election campaigns is strictly prohibited under MCC rules, aimed at maintaining fair and impartial elections.

This controversy comes against the backdrop of Tej Pratap’s strained relationship with his family. He was expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) by his father on May 25, 2025, for six years after admitting to being in a personal relationship that the family considered controversial. Following his expulsion, he floated his own party, the Janshakti Janta Dal, signaling his independent political ambitions ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.

Tej Pratap has previously claimed that social media posts linking him to various controversies were hacked or manipulated, but the political fallout remains significant. He also alleged that a conspiracy was underway to create a rift between him and his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, using metaphoric references to ‘Jaichand’ as a traitor.

The case could have implications for the Bihar Assembly polls, as election authorities may monitor his campaign more closely. Violations like these can affect public perception and party credibility, particularly when linked to misuse of official symbols. While legal proceedings are underway, the incident underscores the challenges of enforcing MCC rules during highly contested state elections.

As the election season heats up, authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against any misuse of police symbols or resources by candidates, ensuring a level playing field for all participants.
